Product Description – Delayed setting powdered concrete additive

Delayed setting powder concrete additive is a developed product specifically for concreting in hot weather conditions, which is modeled and produced based on plasticizers, microsilica powder, water-binding agents, catalysts and fillers, polypropylene fibers and setting retarders, and is packaged and presented in powder form. In addition to increasing slump during concrete construction and increasing efficiency and workability, this material prevents water absorption and, as a result, reduces the permeability of hardened concrete due to the presence of a plasticizer in its formulation. This material is added to dry materials during concrete construction and then concrete water is added to it. These properties are due to the presence of silica fume nanoparticles and sealing agents in the formulation of the delayed setting powder concrete additive. The polypropylene fibers in this product will also increase the mechanical and abrasion properties of concrete. The delayed setting powder concrete additive slows down the initial setting of concrete and will make the setting time controllable under certain conditions. Also, using a powder additive for slow-setting concrete reduces the amount of cement used by 15 to 20 percent.

Powdered concrete admixture is a sub-category of microsilica products ( microsilica gel ). Retarding admixtures are important additives for enhancing the properties of concrete, with the difference that they are a very strong type of concrete retarding admixture. The delayed setting powder admixture delays the setting time of concrete and can reduce the heat of cement hydration. The delayed setting powder admixture prevents rapid slump loss.

Consumption rate of delayed-setting powdered concrete additive

The correct amount of delayed-setting powdered concrete additive is determined by conducting detailed site tests, environmental conditions, and required strengths, but the typical amount of delayed-setting powdered concrete additive is 5 to 8 percent of the weight of the cement used. It is recommended that a water-to-cement ratio of 0.4 be considered when adding delayed-setting powdered concrete additive.

Supplementary maintenance of delayed-setting powdered concrete

The principles of maintaining powdered concrete supplements are as follows:

Duration: One year in original packaging.

Conditions: Away from cold and frost, heat and direct and prolonged sunlight.

Best storage temperature: +10 to +30 degrees

Method of using delayed-setting powdered concrete additive

Delayed setting powdered concrete admixture can be added to the concrete mix in two ways:

1 – The best way to add a slow-setting powdered concrete additive is to first add it to the dry materials, and after combining with the dry materials, add the mixing water and mix.

2 – Delayed setting powdered concrete supplement can also be added to ready-mixed concrete.

Note: To achieve complete mixing and a homogeneous and uniform mixture, mixing should be done for at least 1 minute per cubic meter of concrete.

Properties and effects of delayed-setting powdered concrete additives

  • Increasing the workability and working time of concrete
  • Reducing the water-cement ratio by about 10 to 15 percent
  • Ease of pumping and reduced depreciation of concreting equipment

Mechanism of action of delayed setting powdered concrete additive

When mixing water and cement, the polynaphthalene sulfonate molecules in the delayed-setting powdered concrete supplement formulation form a charged membrane around the cement particles. In this way, it repels the cement grains in the concrete mixture from each other and makes the concrete flowable. Also, the retarding materials in the delayed-setting powdered concrete supplement formulation will provide control over the initial setting time of the concrete. Also, naphthalene sulfonate will prevent the dissolution of ions such as aluminates, which have the highest dissolution rate during the hydration process. Also, the silica fume in the delayed-setting powdered concrete supplement, after being added to the concrete mixture, combines with the active Sio2 in the silica fume with the free calcium hydroxide solution Ca(OH)2 present in the capillary and microscopic pores of the concrete and produces insoluble calcium silicate crystals. Ultimately, these chemical interactions increase the density of the concrete, reduce the permeability, and enhance some of the properties of the concrete.

Safety of delayed-setting powdered concrete additives

The safety principles of delayed-setting powdered concrete additives are as follows:

  • This material is not toxic or hazardous to the environment.
  • If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
  • In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash immediately with plenty of fresh water.
  • It is recommended to wear a mask, gloves, and safety glasses when working with any chemicals.
