Description: Microsilica Powder

Microsilica powder is a gray powder that contains about 94-96% of silicon dioxide (sio2), which is obtained from the production stages of ferrosilicon in electric arc furnaces and to improve some properties of concrete during production and construction. , is added to concrete. In this way, by adding this material, the structure of the cement paste will be compressed and the permeability will decrease and the resistance will increase.

Product Description – Micro Silica Powder (Silica Soot)

Among the prominent reasons for concrete permeability, we can mention the fine and microscopic discontinuities between concrete aggregates, which are caused by the lack of filler and fine grains. Microsilica powder is a gray powder containing about 94-96% silicon dioxide (SiO2), which is obtained from the ferrosilicon production process in electric arc furnaces and is added to concrete to improve some of the properties of concrete during production and construction. In this way, by adding this material, the structure of the cement paste is compacted, permeability will decrease and strength will increase. Another reason for concrete permeability is the formation of capillary tubes after water evaporation during the hydration process. Silica fume or microsilica powder is a suitable additive for filling these empty spaces. Because silica fume particles are much smaller than cement grains and fill very small microscopic spaces well. Also, using this product has the ability to protect concrete against chemical attacks.

Silica fume is a very fine powder that is used as a pozzolanic material in concrete with high efficiency. Microsilica powder ( microsilica gel ) improves the durability of concrete and can reduce the separation of components and particles. Silica fume plays an important role in increasing the properties of building materials. It also significantly increases the durability of concrete by reducing permeability.

300 to 500 kg jumbo

Consumption of micro silica powder

The amount of microsilica powder used depends on the degree of improvement in the desired properties of the concrete, and is recommended to be 7 to 12 percent of the weight of the cement used. Note that the amount of cement used can be reduced by the amount of silica fume added. Adding silica fume alone is not recommended due to its fine grain and easy dispersion in space, and due to its water absorption properties, it is better to use concrete lubricants together to prevent cracking, reduced efficiency, and lack of compaction of the concrete.

Micro silica powder storage

Duration: Three years in original packaging.

Conditions: Away from cold and frost, heat and direct and prolonged sunlight.

Best storage temperature: +10 to +30 degrees

How to use micro silica powder

Silica fume can be added to the mixture in one of the following ways:

1 – The best method of application is to mix microsilica powder with a portion of the mixing water and a certain amount of concrete lubricant, mix and disperse thoroughly with a high-speed mixer, and then add it to the concrete.

2 – Microsilica powder can be combined with a portion of the mixing water, made into a slurry, and then added to the mixture.

3 – Silica fume can be added to dry ingredients when making concrete.

Table of physical and chemical properties of micro silica powder

Title Feature
Mode Pozzolan powder
Color Light or dark gray
Specific gravity 0.03g/cm3
Particle shape Spherical and non-crystalline
Particle size 0.2 to 0.3 microns

Mechanism of action of micro silica powder

By adding silica fume to the concrete mix, the active SiO2 in the silica fume mixes with the free calcium hydroxide solution Ca(OH)2 in the capillary and microscopic pores of the concrete, producing insoluble calcium silicate crystals, which ultimately increases the density of the concrete, reduces its permeability, and enhances some of the properties of the concrete.

Safety of micro silica powder

  • If you inhale silica fume powder, drink plenty of milk.
  • Be sure to wear a special mask when working with microsilica powder to prevent silica fume from entering the respiratory tract.
  • Wear gloves and protective glasses when using.
  • This material is not toxic or hazardous to the environment.
