Product Description – Concrete Penetrant (Crystalizer)

It is a type of crystallizing waterproofing material with a very high penetration power into the concrete, which is used to seal the concrete against the penetration of water and destructive chemicals. After being applied to the concrete surface, it penetrates into the concrete by the osmotic mechanism according to the law of capillary tubes and reacts with free lime and existing moisture, filling all cracks and capillary tubes by forming needle crystals, making the concrete durable against the penetration of water, ions and destructive chemicals found in various types of sewage and seawater. Concrete penetrating powder can be applied to the surface in various forms of slurry, spray and dry and can be used to prepare a permanent seal for the structure by crystallization inside the concrete. The crystallization process of the penetrant is permanent and if it is placed in the vicinity of water, due to its hydrophilic nature, the crystallization process will continue. This sealing method is permanent and does not pose any danger or adverse effect on drinking water. One of the specific applications of crystal-forming penetrant is the sealing of structures where there is a risk of water infiltration in the form of negative pressure. Also, the use of this product allows the concrete to be sealed in a way that does not require re-sealing, which saves on potential costs.

In general, concrete penetrant, by performing hydration steps in concrete, causes all of its pores to be filled. This action greatly reduces the penetration of moisture and water, which provides protection and resistance to concrete.

This product refers to products that are a combination of chemicals that are mixed with concrete and, after mixing with water, cause the formation of microscopic crystals inside the cracks and penetration points of the concrete. These crystals prevent water and moisture from entering the concrete. The main advantage of this additive is that if a crack or penetration point occurs in the concrete during the life of the building, these products are able to repair themselves and strengthen the concrete. This feature makes it an effective option for improving the resistance of concrete to water, as well as maintaining the strength and increasing the lifespan of buildings.

Concrete Penetrant Maintenance Principles

Duration: One year in original packaging.

Conditions: Away from cold and frost, heat and direct and prolonged sunlight.

Best storage temperature: +10 to +30 degrees

Minimum operating temperature: +5 degrees

How to use concrete penetrant correctly

  • Wet all surfaces to be treated with the penetrant using fresh water.
  • Concrete surfaces must be clean and free of any loose particles, dust, paint, primer, or other coatings before application.
  • The surfaces to be applied must be smoothed and polished by sandblasting.
  • Note that concrete penetrant contains cement in its formulation.
  • Mix the penetrating product with water in a ratio of 3 to 1 and continue mixing until a uniform and thick liquid is obtained. (Mix a 20 kg bag of concrete penetrating product with 6.5 to 7 liters of water and continue mixing until a homogeneous and uniform mixture is obtained.)
  • Always mix some penetrant with water to be used.

Note:

If the surface to be applied has deep cracks and scratches, a paste should be made from a mixture of penetrating powder and a smaller amount of water, and the damage, cracks, and seams should be repaired first.

Note:

To start the mixing process, add the powder to the water and use an electric mixer (drill + blade) to mix. Always mix the amount of powder with water that you will use within 30 minutes. Apply the resulting penetrating slurry with a brush (2 layers) on the surface. Note that the second layer should be applied after the first layer is half-dry. And after the second layer is half-dry, keep all surfaces moist by spraying water for 72 hours.

Mechanism of action of concrete penetrant product

After the concrete penetrant comes into contact with water and as a result of the resulting reaction, countless long needle-like crystals are formed that penetrate deep into the concrete, making the concrete surface completely impermeable and permanently blocking the path of water penetration into the capillary pores, joints and microcracks. In addition, the concrete penetrant has a hydrophilic property due to its crystallization property, and the more it is placed around water and moisture, the stronger the crystallization process will continue and the better the sealing property will be.

Proper safety conditions when using concrete penetrant

  • This substance should never be swallowed or come into contact with the eyes.
  • This material is not flammable.
  • It is not within the scope of hazardous and harmful substances for health and the environment.
  • Wear gloves, goggles and work clothes when performing.
