Product Description – Sealant Mastic

In the stages of construction, filling the expansion joints of concrete structures is considered one of the most important stages. These materials must be compatible with the structural reaction and be impermeable and maintain their properties for a long time, and also be reliable in terms of health and environmental problems after implementation. One of the low-cost and simple sealants is cold-applied bitumen mastic, which is a type of single-component mastic and its ingredients include bitumen rubber, bitumen and special solvents and special chemical additives and emulsion resins. It has high adhesion strength and can be applied to concrete, brick, asphalt, etc. After being applied to the joint, this product becomes solid and completely flexible. This product is not suitable for use in structures that are in the vicinity of or exposed to chemical solvents and petroleum products. This mastic has simpler conditions in terms of application than (hot-applied bitumen mastic) because there is no need to apply heat and turn it into a fluid to apply this product, and it is completely economical. This product is also capable of operating at temperatures from -5 to +70 degrees Celsius.

Cold-performance sealants refer to a type of material used in construction and maintenance applications. In the field of insulation, these products play an important role in maintaining thermal comfort. During the winter, they act as a barrier to prevent cold and heat, potentially saving on heating costs. Conversely, they also help keep spaces cool during hot summer days. Ultimately, choosing the right product can significantly impact the comfort and energy efficiency of a building.

Cold-applied mastic packaging

What is the packaging of cold-running mastic?

20 kg bucket

Cold application mastic consumption rate

How much cold applied bitumen sealant should be used?

After determining the volume of the application site and taking into account the specific gravity, equivalent to 1/3 gr/cm3, the exact amount of consumption will be determined.

Cold applied mastic storage conditions

What is the correct way to maintain cold-sealing mastic?

Duration: One year in original packaging.

Conditions: Away from cold and frost, heat and direct and prolonged sunlight.

Best storage temperature: +10 to +30 degrees

Properties and effects of cold applied mastic

What are the properties and effects of cold applied bitumen sealant?

  • High adhesion to various materials such as wood, concrete, metal, etc.
  • High resistance to various weather conditions
  • Good resistance to seawater and water pressures
  • Ability to operate at temperatures from -5 to +70 degrees Celsius
  • Resistance to chlorine ions and destructive ions
  • No spillage or spillage during operation
  • Ease of implementation
  • Single-component, ready-to-use product

Method of using cold applied mastic

How to use cold applied mastic?

  • The surface under the work must be clean and free of any contamination such as grease, oil, and dust.
  • If there is contamination, remove it by applying water pressure (water jet) or sandblasting.
  • Make sure that the surface to be applied must be hard and smooth, without loose spots. If it is not smooth and there is porosity or loose spots, repair and prepare the substrate.
  • Cold applied bitumen mastic can be applied to wet surfaces, but there should not be too much water on the surface.
  • If cold applied bitumen sealant is applied to hot, very dry and rough surfaces, it is necessary to apply a layer of primer (combination of the same product with 50% water) to the surface.
  • Before opening the package of cold applied bitumen mastic, place it in a water bath at a temperature of about 70 degrees until the contents of the container become soft and pourable. This condition can also be achieved by applying indirect heat to the product.
  • Apply the product into the joint by pouring, injecting, or using a trowel and spoon.
  • It is recommended to use backing rod or hemp strips in situations where water pressure is high.
  • It is recommended that cold applied bitumen mastic be applied in two layers. The second layer should be applied when the first layer has reached the desired setting.
  • It is recommended to sand the surface of the first layer before applying the second layer to create a better mechanical bond. Sanding should be done before the first layer dries and about 3 to 4 hours after application, while the surface is still tacky.

Mechanism of action of cold applied mastic

What is the mechanism of action of cold applied bitumen sealant?

Cold applied bitumen mastic is formulated and produced from bitumen, emulsion resins and special mineral powders and has high adhesion to all types of surfaces. After application, coating and drying, this sealant creates a hard yet flexible layer that has both the sealing and adhesion properties of bitumen and the properties of emulsion resins. Due to the presence of special compounds in the formulation of cold applied bitumen mastic, it is very soft and malleable during application and can be easily poured or injected into the desired sections.

Cold-applied mastic safety conditions

What are the safety conditions when using cold-applied mastic?

  • Wash implements immediately after use.
  • This product is not a toxic or environmentally hazardous substance.
  • This substance should never be swallowed or come into contact with the eyes.
  • Wear goggles, gloves and work clothes when performing.
  • If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
  • This material is not flammable.
