Product Description – Hot-applied mastic

In flooring, one of the important elements is the creation of expansion joints, and if a single concreting is performed on these surfaces, it is not logical and the executed surface will certainly have a weak structure and will crack. In this case, the desired surface or floor should be divided into smaller parts and made compactable and then concreting is performed. This type of concreting is performed with a larger area and smaller sections, which will bring many structural advantages. The joints between concrete structures should be filled with a material that has appropriate flexibility after drying, which is why hot-applied mastic has been modeled and offered. Hot-applied bitumen mastic is designed based on an elastic sealant based on bitumen, which can be applied in horizontal areas and also does not have a destructive effect on drinking water. The features of this sealant compared to other mastics include its low cost. It is also suitable for sealants that are water structures. Another feature of this product is that it does not crack after application.

Generally, this product is a type of asphalt material used in road construction and maintenance. It is also suitable for a wide range of repair works. It can also be used for walkways, footpaths, sidewalks and cycle paths. The high bitumen concentration in hot mastic asphalt also gives it an impermeable and waterproof quality.

Hot melt mastic packaging

What is the packaging of hot melt mastic?

Consumption of hot applied mastic

How much hot-applied mastic is used?

The consumption of this product can be calculated by calculating the volume of the application area and taking into account the specific gravity of the material, which is equivalent to 1.2 gr/cm3.

Hot applied mastic maintenance

What is the correct way to store hot applied mastic?

Duration: One year in original packaging.

Conditions: Away from cold and frost, heat and direct and prolonged sunlight.

Best storage temperature: +10 to +30 degrees

How to use hot applied mastic

How to use hot applied mastic?

To apply hot bitumen mastic, the surfaces and joints to be applied must be free of any moisture, dust, grease, or contamination.

If there is any contamination, remove it by applying water pressure (water jet), sandblasting, or air pressure.

Pour the hot mastic into a double-walled pot and pour thermal oil between the walls.

Heat the bitumen mastic to 160 degrees Celsius until it becomes fluid or molten.

Pour the product into the seam or onto the desired surface.

Make sure that the temperature of the mastic during application is at least 130 to 140 degrees Celsius.

Applying hot bitumen mastic can be done using either pouring or injection methods.

Properties and effects of hot applied mastic

Physical and chemical properties of hot applied mastic

What are the physical and chemical characteristics of hot applied mastic?

Title Feature
Mode Solid elastic
Color Black
Specific gravity 1/2g/cm3
Standard ASTM D6690 – ASTM D1190
Melting point 160˚ Celsius
 Maximum heating temperature 180˚ Celsius

Mechanism of action of hot applied mastic

What is the mechanism of action of hot applied mastic?

Hot-applied bitumen sealant mastic is a single-component product that can be applied after heating and reaching a fluid state. After setting and drying, this material creates a rubber-like material with high elasticity to have sufficient resistance to stresses and forces. Also, due to the presence of resin in the formulation of this product, it has high adhesion to surfaces.

Safety of hot applied mastic

What are the safety conditions when using hot applied mastic?

  • This substance should never be swallowed or come into contact with the eyes.
  • Wear goggles, gloves and work clothes when performing.
  • If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
  • This material is not flammable.
