Product Description – Fast-setting microsilica gel

Fast-setting microsilica gel is a very powerful product formulated based on carboxylate lubricants, silica fume, fillers and polypropylene fibers and concrete accelerator additives. After being added to the mixing plan, fast-setting microsilica gel improves the rheological properties of concrete in the paste state and also improves the properties in hardened concrete. This material increases the efficiency of concrete in the paste state and also increases the strength and durability of hardened concrete by eliminating water absorption and cutting off and severely reducing permeability. Fast-setting microsilica gel accelerates the setting time of concrete and is very suitable for concreting in cold weather conditions. In the concrete mixing plan, the use of fast-setting microsilica gel causes silica fume, lubricant and fibers to simultaneously enter the concrete structure, and this mixing causes compaction, fluidity, water reduction, etc., and ultimately develops many of the mechanical properties of concrete. Other advantages of this product include a reduction in the water-to-cement ratio of about 10 to 15 percent.

Fast-setting gelled silica fume is a functional product used in concrete to enhance its properties. When added to the concrete mix design, this admixture improves the rheological properties of concrete in the paste state and also enhances the properties of hardened concrete.

How to use quick-setting microsilica gel

Fast-setting silica gel can be added to concrete in two ways:

  1. Mix with all or part of the concrete mixing water and then add to the dry materials and mix.
  2. Fast-setting silica gel can be added to the mix after all the concrete mix components have been added.

Note: It should be noted that at least 1 minute of mixing operation must be performed for each cubic meter of concrete.

Note: Using more than the permitted amount of quick-setting silica gel additive can cause setting to occur faster than normal, thus disrupting the hydration stage and ultimately weakening the properties of hardened concrete.

How much quick-setting silica gel to use

The amount of quick-setting silica gel used is determined by conducting proper laboratory studies and depends on weather conditions and the type of materials used, but typically the amount of quick-setting silica gel used is 5 to 7 percent of the weight of the cement used. Note that to achieve high compressive strength and strong concrete, 10 to 15 percent of the mixing water should be reduced before adding quick-setting silica gel.

Storage of quick-setting microsilica gel

Mechanism of action of quick-setting microsilica gel

Silica fume, which is present in the formulation of fast-setting microsilica gel, is a powerful pozzolanic material that can be a suitable substitute for cement and also has a function similar to cement. After being mixed with water and calcium hydroxide, silica fume reacts and thus produces hard calcium silicate, which has a significant effect on hardening concrete and increasing its strength. In addition, the polycarboxylate ether present in the fast-setting microsilica gel formulation, which has the role of a lubricant, forms a shell on the cement particles and prevents the cement particles from clumping together by creating a spatial barrier due to the thickness of the absorbed layer. It also creates a repulsive force between the particles due to the absorption of polymer particles by forming homonymous charges, thus lubricating the concrete. The presence of polypropylene fibers in the structure of fast-setting microsilica gel also develops the mechanical and abrasion properties of concrete. In addition, setting accelerators are used in the formulation of fast-setting microsilica gel, which causes rapid setting of the concrete mixture during the cement hydration process.
